Research Associate in stem cell external control using microfluidics

A Research Associate position is available at the Department of Engineering Mathematics, with experimental activities taking place at the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (University of Bristol). The research will be developed within BriSynBio, a £13.5M BBSRC/EPSRC-funded Synthetic Biology Research Centre.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a challenging mammalian Synthetic Biology project joining a highly interdisciplinary team of mathematicians, engineers, biologists and biochemists.

 

The work-plan requires a high level of integration between wet-lab experiments and in silico modelling, under the supervision of Dr. Lucia Marucci (Engineering Mathematics).

 

You will perform reprogramming and differentiation experiments of mouse cell lines, both in standard cultures and in microfluidics devices; perform control experiments in a microfluidic device combined to a fluorescence microscope; implement control and image analysis algorithms. For the latter task, algorithms will be developed by a computational RA appointed on the same project.

 

The successful applicant should have an excellent background in molecular and cell biology (if possible with a focus on pluripotent cell cultures and stem cell differentiation), cell imaging and, possibly, microfluidics. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and be able to integrate experimental and computational work for implementing external control of stem cells using microfluidics.

 

This post is initially offered on a full time, open ended contract with funding for up to 12 months.

 

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in February/March 2018.
