Job Purpose

The Head of Student Conduct role is a varied and interesting role that leads the institutional team responsible for Student Conduct matters at the University. The role holder will be expected to work collaboratively and proactively with a range of colleagues and services on campus; as well as with relevant statutory and voluntary organisations. The right candidate will have experience of working within a regulatory framework and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the application of quasi legal terminology and regulations, as well as issues in relation to student-related cases and the Higher Education sector. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships, respect confidentiality, and be able to effectively deal with difficult people and situations in a sensitive and professional manner.Excellent written and oral communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail, are key.• Educated to degree level and/or at least one year’s experience as a senior administrator in Conducts, Complaints, Appeals or similar.

 

Person Specification

  • Experience of developing high performing teams to meet goals.
  • Significant experience of managing staff, including recruitment, training and performance management.
  • Highly developed written communication skills, including drafting of regulations, guidance and reports, correspondence to internal and external staff and agencies.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of work.
  • Sensitivity to the circumstances of students, including cultural awareness and an understanding of the lives of different groups of students.
  • Detailed knowledge of external legislation that impacts on the areas of responsibility, including the Data Protection Act and Equalities Legislation.
  • Demonstrable ability to liaise effectively with a range of staff and to provide accurate advice with clarity and relevance to the circumstances under discussion.
  • Excellent ability in using IT systems and experience of maintaining databases.
  • Ability to assess and manage risk to students and the University.
  • Experience of using conceptual and analytical approaches to solving problems.
  • Evidence of success in a customer-focused environment, including evidence of negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to use own initiative.
  • Ability to plan and review complex procedures.
  • Demonstrable ability advise Committee members on legislation and procedure
  • Demonstrable ability of being self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Post-graduate qualification would be desirable
