COMMERCIALISATION CO-ORDINATION OFFICER (THREE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 8

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating the commercialisation of UP intellectual property;
  • New business development for UP intellectual property;
  • Research and innovation portfolio project co-ordination;
  • Fundraising for UP research and innovation;
  • Marketing and promoting the University IP.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Technology or equivalent;
  • Two years’ experience in:
    • Relevant technology commercialisation, preferably within a university or research council;
    • Research and innovation project co-ordination work experience.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of the following:
    • IPR-Act 2008;
    • IP laws;
    • Project management theory and tools;
    • Basic financial management;
    • IP due diligence;
  • Ability to grasp technology concepts and conduct desktop market research;
  • Knowledge project management and the monitoring and evaluation of projects;
  • Ability to compile project reports;
  • Team player with a good work ethic;
  • Confident, resilient and tenacious;
  • Conflict resolution skills;
  • Open minded and willing to learn;
  • Networking skills and emotionally intelligent.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • BTech/Bsc Honours in Science, Engineering, or Technology;
  • Project management certificate;
  • Cross work experience or exposure with venture capital firm, NSI funders, TTO, law firm, technology development funders;
  • Business development experience;
  • Sales/marketing experience and certificate;
  • WIPO Courses: DL101, DL301, DL302, and DL450;
  • WIPO Summer School Certification.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
