Temporary Senior Research Assistant

 (One-year contract appointment - renewable)

Duties:

  • Coordinating, developing and supporting clinical research projects with members of the Division of Surgery, encompassing all phases of scientific research, such as conceptualising, literature review, ethics approval, funding, data collection and publishing results;
  • Coordinating, developing, supporting and monitoring data collection processes in Tygerberg Hospital for research projects;
  • Facilitating and monitoring MMed and PHd projects in the Division;
  • Synthetising and analysing data for publications and MMed dissertations;
  • Compiling regular reports on progress of research projects and preparing manuscripts;
  • Completing other duties as required by the head of the Division.

 

Job Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field;
  • Proven research experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within a Health Sciences context;
  • Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies;
  • Experience in postgraduate education;
  • Fluent in at least English and Afrikaans (written, reading and verbally);
  • Competent in the use of Excel for basic statistical analyses;
  • Competent in the use of relevant search engines and databases;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Strong organisational skills.

 

Recommendation:

  • Competency in the use of analytical software e.g. Statistica; Atlas ti; inVivo;
  • Previous publications;
  • Editing skills.
