This full-time post is funded from a grant awarded by the NIHR School for Social Care Research to investigate how different groups of marginalised men (65+) experience and combat loneliness and social isolation in later life and to identify ways in which services can be improved to provide more diverse, tailored social interventions to these groups. We are seeking a Research Associate with experience of interviewing and qualitative data analysis to join our research team and be a key contributor to this important study.

The study is based in the Centre for Research in Health and Social Care, School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol and the Principal Investigator is Paul Willis, Senior Lecturer in Social Work. Other School staff on the research team are Professor of Social Policy, David Abbott. The study is being conducted in partnership with Age UK. The study has been approved by the NHS National Social Care Research Ethics Committee.

You should have previous experience of undertaking qualitative research: experience in undertaking semi-structured interviews on sensitive topics; previous experience of conducting qualitative data analysis; sufficient breadth of knowledge of qualitative research design; and good organisational and time management skills.  A relevant postgraduate research degree or equivalent professional qualification/experience or be working towards one is essential. 

This is a fixed term post – to start as soon as possible.  Fixed term funding - currently available until 30 November 2018.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on 7 March 2018. It is anticipated that interviews will be held on 21 March 2018.
