This role has responsibility for the design, development, support and maintenance of the University’s mission critical IT infrastructure. This role will have full Senior Systems Administration responsibility for Network/Directory Services, including input into architecture, strategy, design and implementation.

You should be highly motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment. You will have the ability to adapt to rapid changes in the standard infrastructure that supports and delivers core services. You will need to show a high level of ability to develop your skills with the minimum of external input, and be able to work in a highly autonomous fashion.
It is critical that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms and remote administration (eg lights out management), working with many levels of complexity. You will have knowledge of the practice of Unix systems administration, including: DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, clustered database administration, configuration management, identity management, security, patching, packaging, automation and backup. You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed multiple servers in a heterogeneous and complex environment.

In addition to this, and the most critical part of the role, you will have responsibility for architecting (alongside the IT Governance Architecture Function). This will entail responsibility for producing roadmaps, input into strategic decisions into Network/Directory Services, taking a full technical lead role for the defined area of expertise and ensuring that you stay ahead of industry trends, spot opportunities to add value to the University and make recommendations for architectural and design changes.

It will also require the role holder to deputise for the Team Manager where necessary.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential to the role. You must be committed to delivering an excellent level of customer service for staff and students while also meeting the organisations strategic goals and financial objectives.

Suitable applicants must have a degree relevant to IT Services or vocational experience which demonstrates equivalent professional development. ITILv3 Foundation Diploma is desirable.
For informal enquiries please contact Sandra Stone, Systems and Operations Manager on 0117 39 41620, sandra.stone@bristol.ac.uk.
