Tuberkulose (TB) is ’n enorme gesondheidsprobleem, in SuidAfrika sowel as wêreldwyd. Om jong kinders met TB te bestuur, behels vele uitdagings, byvoorbeeld oorwegings wat betref die korrekte dosis van TBmedikasie en opvolgwerk met kinders wat behandeling kry. Die Desmond Tutu TBsentrum (DTTS) onderneem navorsing oor verskeie aspekte van TBsorg, en die Sentrum se goed gevestigde navorsingspan werk in Tygerberg Hospitaal, die Brooklyn Hospitaal vir Borskwale sowel as plaaslike gemeenskappe in en om Kaapstad. Die DTTS benodig die dienste van ’n voltydse, toegewyde en betroubare projekberader wat bystand met kliniese navorsing kan verleen met die oog daarop om strategieë vir TBsorg by kinders en by moeders en hulle babas te evalueer.

Die posbekleër sal hoofsaaklik by die DTTS se navorsingseenheid by die Brooklyn Hospitaal vir Borskwale gesetel wees.

Oogmerke van die projek:

Bevorder die gesondheid van kinders met TB deur die farmakokinetika (FK), veiligheidsprofiel en toksisiteit te bestudeer van antiTBmiddels wat algemeen gebruik word by kinders met MIVinfeksie sowel as kinders daarsonder.Werf ’n kohort onder kinders wat aanvanklik ander gesondheidsorgfasiliteite in die WesKaap besoek het.Doen met gereelde tussenposes opvolgwerk met die kinders om te bepaal wat die uitkomste van die behandeling is, watter neweeffekte dit het en hoe getrou deelnemers die instruksies volg.

Ondersteun die navorsingskoördineerder en die res van die span met alle aspekte van die navorsingsprojek.

 

Tuberculosis (TB) is a massive health problem both in South Africa and throughout the world. Managing young children with TB poses many challenges, including considerations regarding the correct dosage of TB medicines and the followingup of children on treatment. The Desmond Tutu TB Centre (DTTC) conducts research into many aspects of TB care and has a wellestablished research team working in Tygerberg Hospital, Brooklyn Chest Hospital and local communities in and around Cape Town. The DTTC is seeking the fulltime commitment of a reliable research counsellor to assist in clinical research projects with the aim to evaluate strategies for addressing TB in children and in mothers and their infants.  Projects are based primarily at the DTTC Research Unit located at the Brooklyn Chest Hospital.

The project aims to:

Improve the health of children with TB by means of studying the pharmacokinetics (PK), safety profile and toxicity of commonly used antiTB drugs in infants with and without HIV coinfection.

Recruit a cohort of children initially seen at health care facilities in the Western Cape.

Do followups with the children at regular intervals to determine treatment outcomes, side effects and adherence.

 

Job purpose:

To assist the study coordinator and the rest of the team in all aspects of the study.

 

Duties

  • Verleen bystand om kinders te werf, ingeligte toestemming en instemming te verkry soos vereis, data paslik in te samel en opvolgbesoeke aan die kinders te bring;
  • Bied berading soos nodig;
  • Verskaf tolkdienste om pasiënt onderhoude te fasiliteer;
  • Woon opleidingsessies by;
  • Bly ingelig oor deelnemers deur middel van tuis en kliniekbesoeke en telefoniese verbinding;
  • Help met administratiewe take by die kantoor.

 

  • Assist with recruiting children, performing informed consent and assent as required, collecting data  as appropriate and doing followup visits with them;
  • Provide counselling as needed;
  • Provide interpreting services to help facilitate patient interviews;
  • Attend training sessions;
  • Trace participants by means of home and clinic visits and telephonic contact;
  • Assist with administration tasks in the office.

 

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

Graad 12;

  • Minstens 2 jaar werkservaring;
  • Die vermoë om in ’n span te werk;
  • Die vermoë om Engels en Xhosa te praat, en goeie skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede;
  • Gesonde interpersoonlike vaardighede;
  • ’n Geldige rybewys;
  • Die bereidwilligheid om oortyd te werk (vergoeding vir sodanige ure sal as vrye tyd bereken word).  

 

  • Grade 12;
  • At least 2 years’ experience;
  • The ability to work in a team;
  • The ability to speak isiXhosa and English, and good written communication skills;
  • Sound interpersonal skills;
  • A valid driving licence;
  • The willingness to work overtime (compensation for such hours will be calculated as for time off).

 

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • ’n Kwalifikasie van ATTIC (die Beradingsentrum vir Vigs opleiding en inligting) of ’n gelykwaardige kwalifikasie;
  • Taalvaardigheid in Afrikaans;
  • Opleiding in goeie kliniese praktyk.

 

  • ATTIC or an equivalent counselling qualification;
  • The ability to speak Afrikaans;
  • GCP training.
