Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach piano at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Contribute to the creative outputs of the School.
  • Teach Ensemble at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students to the School.
  • Accompany the School on recruitment trips.
  • Perform as an accompanist with colleagues and students as required on a regular basis.
  • Teach Piano Method.
  • Inherent requirements:

    Lecturer:

  • Master’s degree in piano performance or equivalent degree. 
  • Proven experience in the delivery of professional recitals in acknowledged art music venues.
  • Provide evidence of reputation as performing artist at national and/or international level.
  • A good academic record.
  • Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD in piano performance or equivalent degree.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of professional recitals in acknowledged art music venues.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise as performer and pedagogue.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students in performance.
  • Proven record of creative outputs at national and/or international level.Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with music performance or teaching at higher education levels. 
  • Recommendations:

    Lecturer:

  • Willing to enroll for a doctoral degree in piano performance at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
  • Proven record of creative outputs at national and/or international level.
  • Experienced pedagogue and performer or pedagogue and performer with outstanding potential.
  • Senior Lecturer:

  • Experienced pedagogue and performer or pedagogue and performer with outstanding potential. 
  • Assumption of duties:
    1 July 2018.
