Role Description

The school of Nursing and Midwifery are seeking Expressions of Interest from suitable applicants for the role of sessional Nursing Clinical Educator (sessional).

The role of the Nursing Clinical Educator is to facilitate clinical knowledge and skill development for undergraduate nursing students in our on -campus simulated learning laboratories and/or in clinical settings across a broad range of nursing environments . Nursing clinical environments include medical -surgical, acute care, mental health community and rural health settings that support person -centred, evidence -based care with preventative, curative, empathetic, restorative and palliative components.

This position is available on a sessional/casual basis in the School of Nursing and Midwifery to support Clinical Placement and Simulated Learning (SLE) activities . Activities are scheduled as 1 week blocks (SLE) and 2 -5 week blocks (clinical placement) throug hout the year. Staff should be available to work full blocks.

Role Responsibilities And Typical Activities

  • Facilitate learning opportunities enabling students to meet the theoretical and clinical objectives of the course
  • Support students in the development of clinical reasoning skills and their capacity to provide evidence based rationales for nursing procedures
  • Consult and collaborate with key school and/or clinical staff to prepare for e ach clinical simulated learning environment/placement, including resources required for teaching the specific course and level of study
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise and professional role modelling in laboratory and/or clinical settings
  • Assist students to develop skills in reflection and self-evaluation, and evidence based clinical practice
  • Consult in a timely manner with relevant academic staff regarding any students having difficulty during skills laboratory sessions or on clinical placement
  • Identify and comply with the ethical, legal and safety requirements of nursing practice in the clinical laboratory and/ or placement setting
  • Role model the Nursing and midwifery board of Australia Codes of conduct and Nursing Practice Standards http://www.nursingmidwi feryboard.gov.au/Codes-Guidelines-Statements/Professional-standards.aspx
  • Attend and participate in clinical briefings, team meetings and continuing education programs offered by the Faculty for clinical educators
  • Document all relevant information regarding student assessment, incident reports or issues which relate to the clinical placement
  • Ensure documentation of student performance is completed accurately on the required forms and returned to the School within a set time period
  • Completion of accurate time-sheets, placement attendance summaries and submission of these is completed within a set time-period
  • For clinical placements: Respond promptly and professionally to the concerns and needs of students and staff in the health care facility and refer to appropriate faculty staff members when required
  • Implement Learning Support Plans, in consultation with Director of Clinical Education, to address students under performance in areas such as professional behaviour, communication, provision and coordination of care, knowledge and critical thinking. submission of documentation
  • Undertake any other duties re levant and appropriate to this level
