Job Details

Job description:

The University of Bristol are inviting applications for the position of a research associate to join our team working on high-temperature high-pressure superconductors as part of a 5 year ERC research grant.

We are investigating the properties of hydrogen-compound superconductors including H3S and LaH10 at pressures above 100GPa and we are probing new hydrogen-rich compounds for high-temperature superconductivity.

We are looking for a candidate who can support our magnetic, transport, and spectroscopic measurements. The position offers to conduct high-impact work on record superconductors and to discover new superconductors.

The successful candidate should have experience in high-pressure experiments using diamond anvil pressure cells and ideally also in magnetic and transport measurements at low-temperature. Experience in interpreting results of magnetic and transport studies in the framework of superconductivity is desired. A PhD in condensed matter physics or closely related subject either awarded or to be awarded in the very near future, is required.

As a Research Associate you will work in the Correlated Electrons Systems group at the University of Bristol which is world-leading in the field of superconductivity. You will find it to be a stimulating environment covering a wide expertise from theory via sample synthesis to bulk measurements and microscopic probes.

The group is part of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Condensed Matter Physics attracting the best PhD students. The University of Bristol is a research intensive elite University in the vibrant city of Bristol in the beautiful West of England.

Further information:

The Research Associate position is available to start March 2019 or soon afterwards for a period of up to 34 months limited to the grant period.

Research Associate will be Grade I - £33,199 to £37,345 per annum.

The closing date for applications is 11:59 on the 31st January 2019. Interviews will be held in February 2018.

Please use the University of Bristol application form: For informal enquiries please contact; Dr Sven Friedemann (Sven.Friedemann@bristol.ac.uk) Tel: +44 (0)117 928 8726 Webpage: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/physics/research/ces/

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
