We have an opportunity for you to ‘fast track' your career into business by leading a high profile and strategically important project to a successful conclusion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working in partnership with Monocon International Refractories Ltd. and the School of Mechanical Engineering. This will provide an excellent opportunity for you to utilise your academic achievements in an industry setting.Monocon manufactures and supplies specialised refractory products and engineering services to steel and iron manufacturers. Their strategic goal is to design, develop and manufacture innovative, high quality products to steelmakers all around the world.The KTP will develop an understanding of the fundamental science underpinning Monocon's products, develop new design methodologies and deploy advanced computational techniques, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to deliver innovative design and performance improvements in both metallurgical lances and slag control darts for the global steel industry.You will be based at the company premises near Doncaster, but will be employed by the University of Leeds for the duration of the project, a fixed period of 30 months, spending some time at the University. The School of Mechanical Engineering will provide academic and technical support to you throughout the project.In addition to the challenges of the post, you will be expected to work towards a chartered membership of an appropriate professional body.You will have access to a training and development package worth £5,000, to be spent according to your needs and the project's requirements, enabling you to work effectively on the KTP, and to plan for your future career. Additionally, you will attend two weeks of residential KTP training to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to complete the project successfully, for which time is allocated and funding provided.
