Job Details

Location: Bristol, UK

This full-time Senior Research Associate post is funded through a new collaboration between the charitable arm of The Dispute Service/Safe Deposits (Scotland) and the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE). This post is the core of the collaboration. The postholder will undertake a programme of social scientific research on issues relating to the private rented sector, with the broad objective of improving standards in the sector.

CaCHE is organized around seven themes. This programme of work is based within CaCHE's governance theme, led by Professor Alex Marsh of the University of Bristol. The postholder will join the Centre for Urban and Public Policy Research at the School for Policy Studies.

You should have a track record of successfully completed independent research in housing studies or a closely related social scientific field; and detailed relevant subject knowledge (the social and economic issues associated with regulatory interventions in markets; recent developments in, and operation of, the UK private rented sector).  In addition, you should have high-level analytical skills; excellent qualitative interviewing skill and evidence of the ability to publish in high-quality academic journals.  A doctoral qualification in housing studies or a relevant social science discipline (or equivalent professional experience) is also essential.  The role holder must have the ability and willingness to travel to locations across the UK.

This post is an open ended contract with fixed funding available from 1 February 2019 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 30 November 2021.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 22 January 2019.  The selection process will be held as soon as possible following the closing date.

The School would welcome applications for any suitably qualified and experienced candidates including those from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Informal enquiries are welcome and can be directed to Professor Alex Marsh. Please contact by email in the first instance (alex.marsh@bristol.ac.uk)

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
