SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: SYSTEMS OPERATIONS

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 8

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Provide an outstanding systems administration support and information service within the framework of available resources, as well as contribute to the development, maintenance and management of an efficient student system;
  • Provide leadership to junior staff and to serve as mentor to intern staff;
  • Problem solve, administrate and maintain IT student systems within the Department of Enrolment and Student Administration and Faculties;
  • Participate in technical projects;
  • Contribute to IT system innovation;
  • Support end users, prospective and registered students in relevant self service functions of the University of Pretoria;
  • Provide technical specialist support to ensure that the operational activities of the DESA staff, Faculties and students are not interrupted.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A relevant Bachelor's degree;
  • Five years' faculty/student administration, and administrative experience at a tertiary institution;
  • Five years' intensive use of MS Office package: Windows, e-mail, internet, File Transfer Protocol and PeopleSoft Queries;
  • Five years' PeopleSoft experience: fundamental principles, academic structures, student records, processing of marks, postgraduate processes and registration.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of the following:
    • IT infrastructure and user support;
    • Document design;
    • Meeting management;
    • XML and HTML;
  • Interpersonal skills;
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Organisational ability.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • A relevant honour's degree;
  • A Management Development Programme certificate;
  • Formal PeopleSoft Campus Training.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
