The Experimental Rheumatology (ER) group at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel/University Hospital Basel is looking for an experienced and committed laboratory technician (50 - 70%).

In the Experimental Rheumatology laboratory, we are studying the intrinsic cellular and molecular factors that drive inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases.

Your position

The successful applicant will join the ER Lab to support a 2-year collaboration project with the ETH Zürich and a biotech StartUp company to identify and evaluate molecules to be developed as drugs for the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. 50% of the work will be directly linked to the collaboration project, while up to 20% will involve broadly supporting lab technician functions and maintenance of the lab. Main experimental techniques include in vitro/ex vivo cell culture as well as current molecular, biochemical and immunological assays.

The applicant should preferably have a broad experience as lab technician, as well as practical knowledge in human cell culture techniques, cellular viability/toxicity assays, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, qPCR (TaqMan) and immunoblotting. As part of a small and international research team the position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, proactivity and the ability to multi-task. Team play and motivation for biological research are essential. The primary language of the laboratory is English/German.

We offer you

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the interface between the vibrant research field of autoimmunity and drug development. The ER lab offers a stimulating work environment in a small and motivated team with a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

The position is available from February 1st, 2019, for a period of one year with the possibility of longer-term extension.
