The Career Services Project Co-ordinator supports the Career Services Office functions with special focus on advancing the Ready for Work Programme. This position requires the development and expansion of the Ready for Work Programme to support the UP strategic plan. This requires the identification and co-ordination of various stakeholders and work readiness initiatives on campus. In the programme, students and alumni are supported in preparing to enter the world of work by preparing, planning and developing the soft skills and acquiring work exposure required by employers.

 

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Take responsibility, drive and manage the Ready for Work Programme to support the UP strategy for employability;
  • Co-ordinate the Ready for Work activities across all divisions and campuses with the various stakeholders to ensure a seamless and effective delivery of the initiative;
  • Ensure a clear understanding of the future of work and needs in the employer market and ensure that these are addressed in the Ready for Work Programme;
  • Market and promote the Ready for Work Programme;
  • Set targets and monitor progress to grow student involvement in work readiness;
  • Manage and maximise TuksCareers and LinkedIn as resources to enhance employability;
  • Identify and co-ordinate opportunities for work exposure for students;
  • Create and source new opportunities for students for work exposure;
  • Initiate and implement the systems development of the presentation of soft skills completed on a student's academic record;
  • Ensure effective administrative functions for the Ready for Work Programme;
  • Source additional funding/sponsorship for the Ready for Work Programme;
  • Identify and implement innovative ways to prepare students for the world of work;
  • Prepare students to find employment by developing job-search skills, effective candidate presentation skills, and the understanding of the fit between their competencies and occupational and job requirements;
  • Manage and further develop skills training for students and ensure growth in the number of students enrolled;
  • Identify and use innovative ways to deliver skills training, especially by way of new technologies and on-line resources;
  • Build relationships with employers and encourage their UP involvement;
  • Create opportunities for company exposure to students on campus;
  • Grow the number of job opportunities offered to students;
  • Plan and ensure professional execution of Career Event Days;
  • Manage and grow the employer database;
  • Create and source new opportunities for work experience for students;
  • Establish and manage internships, learnerships and opportunities for work exposure for students;
  • Encourage students' participation to gain experience through student activities, community service, student employment, research projects, co-operative education, internships, and other opportunities.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree;
  • Two years' experience in the following: Project management; Stakeholder management; Marketing; Student development;
  • Driver's license.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Gmail;
  • Good financial and numerical skills;
  • Good communication skill and the ability to make public presentations in small or large group settings;
  • Excellent client service skills;
  • Ability to make decisions, monitor processes and manage risks;
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflict situations;
  • Willingness to accept and manage challenges;
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain deadlines;
  • Proven organisational skills and negotiation skills;
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and manage activities in a proactive manner;
  • Good interpersonal skills.

 

Added Advantages and Preferences

  • An Honours degree;
  • Relevant tertiary diplomas or short courses;
  • Knowledge in student/graduate career development programmes;
  • Knowledge in University  stakeholder environment (internally and externally);
  • Experience in report writing;
  • Prevailing graduate recruitment practices;
  • Experience in the use of computer applications in online self-help services;
  • Client service experience;
  • Skilled in Public speaking/presentations.

Please note: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
