Job Details

The mission of the Instituto de Pesca, a scientific research institution on fishing linked to São Paulo state Secretary for Agriculture and Supply, is related to the responsibility of the use of living aquatic resources through the development of technology for sustainable aquaculture and fisheries, as well as the improvement of the quality of human life. Our facilities include laboratories and experimental aquaculture ponds for trials. The current researches interests include the development of vaccines for aquaculture, based on innovative techniques and scientific demand of knowledges. Therefore, we are looking for a dedicate young researcher qualified to develop vaccines with high efficacy for fish.

The Project will be funded by São Paulo Research Foundation - FAPESP (www.fapesp.br/en), through its Young Investigator Award Program (http://fapesp.br/en/4479). The award will be provided as a Research Grant with the maximum duration of 48 months. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Young Investigator Fellowship in the amount of R$ 8.152,20 monthly free of Income Taxes. Expected research focus 

The research focus is related to the following topics:

  1. Vaccine application methods;
  2. Evaluation of vaccine adjuvant for fish;
  3. Development of new technologies for fish vaccine;
  4. Employment of molecular techniques applied for fish vaccine;
  5. Fish pathology - microbiology (bacteriology and/or virology);
  6. Histopathology of fish;
  7. Fish immunology. 

 

Profile and required skills 

PhD in Biological, Veterinary or Animal Science (Molecular biology/Biochemistry/Microbiology), with experience in vaccine studies, fish immunology, histopathology, microbiology and development of specific trials with fish. Fish experiment trials (LD50, infection challenge) and abilities to assembly of systems for experimental infection testing (aquarium, water quality parameters control and fish management). Language skills: English, Spanish and/or Portuguese.
