Job summary

Make an important contribution to the clinical education of the next generation of veterinarians

We are seeking a suitably qualified veterinary clinician to join a dedicated team at the University of Adelaide's Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) in the daytime primary opinion service. The CAHC is an accredited veterinary hospital which provides high quality primary opinion, specialist, emergency and critical care services for a dynamic and growing caseload of small animal patients.

The primary opinion service operates Monday to Friday and offers a range of services including vaccinations, desexing, wellness and preventative medicine, general surgical procedures and dentistry. As a GP in the primary opinion service you will enjoy strong support from a lively group of experienced academic specialists and pathologists, plus well-trained, hard-working nurses, client services personnel, and technical support staff. You will also have the opportunity to involve highly motivated final year veterinary students in clinical case management. By providing students with additional learning opportunities where appropriate and demonstrating the highest standard of clinical and professional behaviour, you will be making an important contribution to the clinical education of the next generation of veterinarians.

The candidate

You are an enthusiastic, team-oriented veterinarian with a strong drive to deliver the highest standards of clinical service and care.  You have proven experience in first opinion care and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  You look forward to mentoring the next generation of veterinarians by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.

To be successful you will need:

  • A Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a Veterinarian in South Australia, and proven experience in first opinion services
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members
  • Enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others
  • Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence
