Duties and responsibilities:

Curriculum Design - Teaching And Learning, Graphic and Multimedia Design

  • Coordinate Teaching and Learning, Graphic and Multimedia Design activities within Curriculum Delivery and Innovation (CTL).
  • Liaise with Faculties / Schools / Departments to provide Teaching and Learning, Graphic and Multimedia Design services.
  • Proactively supports academic staff to pursue continuous curriculum and programme innovation, including alternative forms of delivery including blended and online learning approaches.
  • Pro-actively markets blended / online learning within the University of the Free State.
  • Support academic staff in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of blended I online learning initiatives.
  • Coordinate the quality assurance of online / blended learning design.

 

Client Relations - Liaison, Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate activities of all Teaching and Learning Designers and Developers, as well as Multimedia and Graphic designers within the focus area Curriculum Delivery and Innovation (CTL).
  • Deal with queries from academic staff regarding Teaching and Learning design, including the official Learning Management System (Blackboard).
  • Responsible for the effective dissemination of information about Teaching and Learning design and official Learning Management System (Blackboard) to Faculties.
  • Collaborate with appropriate teaching and learning role-players within faculties and CTL.
  • Performs a variety of general administrative tasks e.g. answering correspondence and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains links with other Higher Education institutions and participate in communities of practice relevant to Teaching and Learning design.

 

Training and Development

  • Development of an annual training plan regarding the integration of technology in Teaching and Learning.
  • Coordinate the development of training material related to the integration of technology in Teaching and Learning.
  • Present workshops regarding teaching with technology, including (but not limited to) the use of the Learning Management System (Blackboard).

 

Project Management

  • Manage projects related to the use of emerging and innovative technology in teaching and learning practices.

 

People Management - Supervision

  • Coordinate activities of all Learning Designers and Developers within the focus area Curriculum Delivery and Innovation (CTL).
  • Coordinate activities of all Multimedia and Graphic Designer.

 

People Management - Mentorship

  • Play an active mentorship role in the development and growth of the Junior Learning Designers.

 

Research

  • Analyze and interpret international and national best practices in teaching and learning; and more specifically blended/ online learning.
  • Research on the use of emerging and innovative technology in teaching and learning practices.

 

Inherent requirements:

  • A post-graduate qualification in education/higher education or other relevant field.
  • Four (4) years' experience in computer- integrated teaching and learning and/or instructional design in a higher education environment.
  • Four (4) years' experience in the use of educational technology, including but not limited to the use of a learning management system.
  • Two (2) years' experience in training and development.
  • Two (2) years' experience in people management.

 

Required competencies: 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
  • Knowledge in lesson or lecture design.
  • Knowledge in use of educational technology.
  • Knowledge in the use of a Learning Management System.
  • Knowledge in training and development.
  • Knowledge in people management.
  • Knowledge in project management.
  • Liaison, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Building Coalitions.

 

Recommendations:

  • Two (2) years' experience in educational technology research.
  • Two (2) years' experience in project management.

 

Assumption of duties: 

1 April 2019
