Senior Animal Technical Officer / Supervisor

UQ Biological Resources (UQBR) is a UQ organisation responsible for delivering world class services to UQ Researchers involved in research using laboratory animals. 

We are currently advertising for a Senior Animal Technical/ Supervisor position within UQ Biological Resources / QBI Animal Facility based at St Lucia.

The role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide high quality care and maintenance of laboratory teaching and research animals and managing complex GM rodent colony production, within the University of Queensland Biological Resources Animal facilities.

This position is to provide a high level of responsibility in a significant administrative support and supervisory role, and expected to give major support to the Manager of the facility to cover a variety of duties.

This position will involve a high level of responsibility and the ability to work independently.

The person

The person must have significant expertise in complex GM rodent colony management and a sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of animal facilities day-to-day operations. 

The person must have experience with supervising staff, animal facility administration, specialist reproductive or surgical techniques and the care of genetically modified animals would be well regarded.

The person must demonstrate a good understanding of laboratory animal care and regulatory requirements and be proficient in using electronic software programs and hardware.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organisational skills are essential.

Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety.  In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

Vaccinations and Immunisation

It is a condition of employment for this role that if you are required now or in the future, to work or interact in Queensland Health clinical facility; or in an equivalent clinical health facility; or health care role; or will be required to perform work tasks that put you at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease you are required to be immunised against, and remain immunised against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in accordance with the University's Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08). The employee is required to provide evidence of immunisation against VPDs. 

Remuneration

We are currently advertising for a full time, 3 year fixed term placement at HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range $66,347.80 - $74,098.94 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $77,626.93 - $86,695.76 p.a.).
