Job Details

A great opportunity has arisen at the University of Bristol for an experienced insurance professional, currently based in the University Secretary's Office (Legal Services), offering varied and interesting in-house work for a suitably qualified person. You will be placing a range of cover, from property and business interruption to clinical trials, and making sure claims are processed fairly and settled promptly.  The University currently uses different brokers for specialised areas of risk and places other policies direct.  The University plans a new campus at Temple Quarter and you will be helping to establish the insurance requirements for the project.  The present post holder is retiring after 19 years, so a fresh approach and new ideas will be welcomed.

Higher education presents a unique, complex and stimulating environment, where the insurance needs must be carefully considered.  You will be faced with a challenging and varied workload that will require a flexible and clear-headed approach, combined with excellent communication and organisational skills.  You will be expected to develop positive working relationships with stakeholders both within and outside the University.

You will have outstanding interpersonal skills, facilitating engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including working and liaising directly with colleagues at all levels across the University.  You will provide advice and guidance to the University's c.6000 staff, including academics, professional services and technical staff.

You will have sound knowledge and practical experience of the following:

  • Insurance related regulations and legislation
  • Finance systems
  • Working in a similar role in a large complex organisation
  • Underwriting or claims at an insurer and client experience at a broker

You must be a Fellow or Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.  Institute of Occupational Health (IOSH) qualification or other evidence of health and safety training would be desirable.

The University of Bristol is an exciting and dynamic place in which to work, offering a stimulating and varied professional environment in the heart of the city.  This post is available on a open-ended full-time basis.

For informal enquiries, please contact the current post holder, Ginny Hope, on 0117 394 1821 or by email at ginny.hope@bristol.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Wednesday 6th March 2019.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
