Direct Doctorate Fellowship in Electroanalysis, QCM and Adsorption
The present project is about the development of analytical strategies for detection and characterization of hemiesters of carbonic acid (HECAs) - also known as monoalkyl carbonates. In previous studies, different techniques such as capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, and 13C NMR were used to explore the formation of these compounds. In this step, we intend to explore the electrochemical behavior of HECAs. The esterification reaction of the alcohol group can significantly alter its electrochemical behavior. The challenge will be to investigate this behavior in the presence of large amounts of alcohol and/or bicarbonate present in the medium.
Desired skills and experience
The candidate should have a good knowledge in electroanalytical chemistry. It in also desirable to have familiarity about electrochemical processes associated with quartz crystal scales and events involving adsorption. Knowledge in microfluidic and capillary electrophoresis strengthens the application.
About the employer
The PhD will join a group that has been involved for years in the development of electroanalytical studies and analytical instrumentation at the Department of Fundamental Chemistry from the University of São Paulo - one of the most important universities in Brazil. There is a fellowship for the PhD granted by FAPESP, the São Paulo Research Foundation.
