Job Purpose

Reporting to the School's Head of Operations but with day to day accountability to defined project Principle Investigators, the Research Project Officer will be responsible for ensuring research projects are supported professionally to enable academic collaborators to create world class research while meeting project deliverable deadlines, managing finance, legal and HR processes in line with University regulations and funding agreements.

The post holder will work across a range of different projects with funding from EU, EPSRC, Royal Society and Industry sources.

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Educated to Degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience and significant administrative experience in an education environment. (Essential)
  • A professional project management qualification. (Desirable)


Skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports on complex matters (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral, and an ability to deal with people at all levels (Essential)
  • Excellent IT skills using Microsoft Office, the ability to manipulate computer systems and databases and willingness to learn other software packages as required (Essential)
  • Website creation/editing and content creation (Desirable)


Knowledge and Experience
  • Proven ability to plan and manage own workload in a highly efficient and effective manner, and to meet competing deadlines while meeting quality criteria (Essential)
  • The ability to work proactively, independently and as part of a team (Essential)
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining complex working systems (Essential)
  • The ability to work flexibly in a fast moving, dynamic environment where change is often required immediately (Essential)
  • Ability to work within a regulatory and legislative frameworks (Essential)
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex matters to staff (Essential)
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010 and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area of business that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly. (Essential)
  • Proven ability to manage a budget effectively in accordance with policies and procedures (Desirable)
  • Experience of Committee support (Desirable)
  • Experience of working in Higher Education supporting academics with the management of funded projects. (Desirable)
