Job Purpose

We are specifically looking for someone who can make a significant contribution to the development and delivery of the teaching programmes in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs (ISEN). The person appointed will be expected to take up responsibility for the new ISEN Dubai PGCert programme. This will be supported by a broader ISEN team (most notably the overall ISEN programme lead) who will also contribute to the ISEN Dubai version of the programme.

The person appointed will also develop the ISEN programme - exploring how PGDip and Masters versions of the programme can be introduced in Dubai.

Post holders will be based on our Edgbaston Campus for a two year period, travelling to Dubai to deliver block teaching in the capacity of a flying faculty for approximately six weeks a year, (accommodation, air ticket and full travel insurance) will be paid and relevant visa will be arranged. The maximum expectation during this period would be three visits in a given month period, each of no longer than 14 days. An ideal candidate should be flexible to travel to Dubai whilst being based in Birmingham as a part of the role requirements. The role will be initially based in Birmingham for 2 years followed by a permanent transfer to Dubai.

Key Responsibilities Involved Using a variety of methods in teaching and advising individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students, including developing programme proposals and making substantial contributions to the design of teaching programmes more widely developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement activities or similar on own specialism that enhances the student experience or employability and which benefits the College and University; managing enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities

Person Specification
  • Normally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications
  • Experience of caring for or working with children or adults with disabilities and special educational needs, particularly in the middle eastern context (UAE in particular)
  • Extensive research/teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning/research
  • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels

Teaching
  • Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching, and advising colleagues
  • Experience and success in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity that enhances the student experience or employability


Management Administration
  • Ability to contribute to School/Departmental management processes
  • Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Acting as admissions tutor, supporting recruitment activities including open days in Dubai (and virtual open days), and dissemination of programme information to a wide audience.
