Job Details

The Molecular Engineering Lab (Prof. Michael A. Nash) is jointly affiliated with the University of Basel and ETH Zurich. The research focus of the group is on engineering artificial protein systems for biomedical therapeutic applications. We are interested in protein structure and function, and its relation to protein mechanical properties. To study this topic, we use single-molecule force spectroscopy with the atomic force microscope, along with cutting edge methods in protein engineering, and directed evolution. You can learn more about the lab at: https://www.chemie.unibas.ch/~nashm

Your position

We are interested in postdoctoral candidates as well as PhD student candidates with experience and/or interests in the following areas:
  • Directed evolution
  • Next generation sequencing for protein engineering
  • Protein structure characterization (crystallography, NMR, etc...)
  • Yeast display
  • AFM single-molecule force spectroscopy
  • Protein engineering
  • High-throughput screening

Your profile

We are looking for curious, driven and hard-working personalities with strong social skills and team spirit. Eagerness to learn, and push your own limits along with a strong desire to make fundamental discoveries are key attributes. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in a related field and have relevant research experience in one or more areas mentioned above. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

We offer you

Basel is a city on the Rhine River in northwest of Switzerland, located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet. The salary level is competitive by international standards and will be according to the guidelines at the University of Basel. Integration of the lab within the larger molecular systems engineering center ( www.nccr-mse.ch ) provides ample opportunities for collaborations.
