LECTURER: LIFE SCIENCES EDUCATION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will be expected to:
  • Develop, present and co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate Life Sciences Education courses for students for contact and distance presentation;
  • Use a learning management system to develop and present courses;
  • Present lectures and programmes out of town on any day of the week, including after hours and over weekends as required;
  • Provide a significant contribution to research outputs, postgraduate teaching and supervision, as well as mentor students on teaching practice.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • An appropriate Master's degree in Life Science Education or in Life Sciences;
  • A qualification in Education;
  • Experience in teaching Life Sciences at school or university level;
  • Evidence of involvement in research (journal articles/conference participation).


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language, communication, and teaching skills;
  • ICT skills.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Enrolled for a PhD;
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision;
  • Proven record of the ability to attract external funding.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
