The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems.

The Global Network for Women's and Children's Health Research is the flagship research collaboration of the Reproductive Health research group at the Department of CHS. At the Global Network (GN) research site in Thatta, a prospective, population-based active surveillance of pregnancies is maintained. The data from the registry/surveillance also provides the mortality and morbidity outcomes for GN trials and helps investigators plan future studies.

This is a grant funded, short-term contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the project including facilitating the community-based activities, coordinating with other government and non-government departments and serving as a liaison with the department
• managing personnel, logistics and functioning of GNRural office, Thatta
• resolving field-based transport issues and ensuring the implementation of monthly/daily vehicle roster
• managing health facility issues at intervention areas and communicating with health-care providers
• liaising between communities and GN research team
• monitoring field activities, data editing, report writing, and data presentation while ensuring quality data collection from health facilities
• assisting in the systematic application of participatory community action cycle approach to mobilizing communities for improved maternal and newborn health by planning and implementing mobilization activities
• training the field staff in creating community core committees for men/women in most villages
• assisting in resolution of issues at the village, district or project office in close coordination with Senior Foreign Investigator and CHS Karachi office.

Requirements

You should have:

• a Master's degree
• at least five years' of experience, preferably in managing field activities
• good written and verbal communication skills in Urdu, English and Sindhi
• ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality
• proficiency in use of computer software
• willingness to work in community setting.
