- Carry out extensive study including reports of results from practical tests and experiments.
- Prepare and characterise a range of micro-carriers with different sizes, which are loaded with an activethat can be releasedon demand.
- Create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range ofactivities within an established research programme and/or specific research project.
- Contribute to the achievement of the School's research strategy by undertaking specified research activities within an established research programme.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and produce microcapsules with the adequate controlled release of the active, the appropriate stability and shelf life using techniques suitable for large scale manufacture.
- Characterise microcapsules in terms of microstructural, mechanical properties, release profile and stability in a modelformulation and behaviour of microcapsules during spraying under conditions similar to that used by farmers
- Work in collaboration with industrial partners to optimise the quality of microcapsules and assist in pilot plant trial
- Prioritise tasks within agreed work schedule to ensure that projects are delivered timeously
- Suggest and contribute to the development of research techniques, models and methods in collaboration with colleagues
- Contribute to writing bids forthe project follow up research grant
- Disseminate research findings using appropriate and effective media such as publication, research seminars etc
- Provide guidance to other staff and students on own specialist area
- Analyse and interpret the results of own research and generate ideas based on outcomes
- Production of research reports and publications
- Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

Skills and Experience
- PhD in an area related to project: Biological sciences, bioprocess engineering, formulation engineering or related field with relevant experience
- Very good knowledge of processing engineering, chemistry and product formulation
- High level analytical capability
- Excellent experimental skills
- Excellent capability to write research reports and papers
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
- Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
Planning and Organising
- Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme that deals with development of microcapsules formulation with time delayed release properties
- Plan for the use of research resources as appropriate
Decision Making
- Decide in consultation with the principal investigator as appropriate, on the most appropriate way of undertaking the specified research activities
- Decide in consultation with the principal investigator as appropriate how to analyse and interpret the data from the specified research activities
- Decide in collaboration with co-authors which aspects of the research findings to include in a presentation or a publication and how to convey the findings
- Use resources and facilities as appropriate
- Contribute to deciding what information to include in a bid for research funding and how to present the bid to maximise the likelihood of securing the funding
Internal/External Relationships
- Liaise with research staff, PhD students and support staff on research-relatedand routine matters
- Organise and participate inregular project meetings with external collaborators and othergroup meetings for the exchange of information
- Give presentations and/or contribute to presentations at national and/or international conferences
