Job Details

The Department of English at the University of Basel is looking for a 60% assistant in English Linguistics (with Professor Heike Behrens), starting August 1, 2019.

Your position
  • write their Ph.D. or Habilitation thesis (part of the working hours are reserved for the thesis project), publish academic articles, give conference talks, attend relevant conferences, and engage with the activities of the English Department;
  • play an active role in the international doctoral program of the Hermann-Paul-School of Linguistics ( http://hpsl-linguistics.org ). Assistants pursuing a PhD will have to do their coursework within the HPSL;
  • teach 2 hours per semester on the BA level (PhD candidates) and/or MA level (Habilitation candidates);
  • perform administrative duties, such as study counselling and active involvement in the planning and organization of departmental structures, processes, and courses of study.


Your profile

Candidates should have a university degree or PhD in English Studies and a sustained interest in Cognitive Linguistics and / or Language Acquisition Research.

The conditions of employment are based on the regulations of the University of Basel. Positions are fixed term (1+3 years for PhD candidates, 2+4 years for Habilitation candidates).
