School of Political Science & International Studies

The School of Political Science & International Studies is at the forefront of teaching and research in political science, public policy, international relations, and peace and conflict studies in Australia. The School's academic teaching and research staff include internationally recognised scholars who are leaders in their research fields and award winners for innovation and excellence in teaching. The School hosts the Graduate Centre in Governance and International Affairs, the Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and one of the six worldwide Rotary Centres for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.

The role

The position requires the Fellow to provide support to the Head of School, and to pursue their own research agenda. In the first capacity the Fellow will assist with data collection, data analysis, literature reviews, authoring publications, and organising workshops and seminars to support Professor Gelber's research, which lies in the field of freedom of speech and the regulation of harmful speech. The Fellow will also assist the School in securing strategic teaching opportunities in the Asia Pacific region and undertake some teaching. In the second capacity the Fellow will independently pursue their own postdoctoral research in any field of political science.

The person

Applicants should have a PhD in any area of political science, and demonstrated expert knowledge in any area of political science including public policy and governance, Australian politics, or political theory. You should have demonstrated research and academic writing skills, and strong communication and organisational skills. Research expertise in freedom of speech and related political theory, and/or the regulation of harmful speech and related political philosophy would be advantageous.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for three years at Research Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,828 - $90,982 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $104,730 - $116,446 p.a.).
