Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in clinical exercise physiology and exercise testing? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

This BHF funded post-doctoral position is available for a fixed-term of 3 years to investigate the use of an innovative cardiopulmonary exercise test to understand the mechanism of exercise limitation in chronic heart failure. This project will bring together exercise physiology and clinical researchers to address this important clinical question, which will provide new insights for how treatment strategies can be optimised to improve outcomes in chronic heart failure patients.

You will be located within the School of Biomedical Sciences, with the work being carried out in the cardiovascular clinical research facility housed within Leeds General Infirmary. The work will be supervised by Dr Carrie Ferguson and Dr Bryan Taylor (SBMS), Dr Klaus Witte (FMH) and Dr Harry Rossiter (SBMS & Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center).

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is committed to pursuing research in the area of clinical exercise physiology, integrated systems physiology and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. You should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Exercise Physiology, Sports and Exercise Sciences, Human Physiology or a closely allied discipline, with some experience in exercise testing and pulmonary gas exchange measurements. Experience in working with patients in a clinical environment, and in techniques such as spirometry and echocardiography are also desirable.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was reawarded a Bronze award in 2017. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information.
