Post-doctoral Fellowship in Biodiversity of Microalgae

The Laboratory of Phycology and the Laboratory of Algal Biotechnology at the Botany Department of the Federal University of São Carlos with the support of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) on a Thematic Project is selecting one researcher for a post-doctorate fellowship. The position is available for Brazilian and foreign qualified researchers.

The selected researcher will develop the subproject Applications of the biodiversity of native microalgae in Brazil: importance of taxonomic, systematic, and molecular phylogeny, within the thematic project Bioprospection, characterization and optimization of Brazilian microalgae to CO2 biofixation and production of biomolecules with commercial importance.

Requirements

• The applicant must have PhD in Biological Sciences, Botany, Ecology or related areas, with verified experience (master or PhD thesis) in phycology. The degree must have been acquired within the last 7 years of the application deadline;
• The candidate researcher must have experience in taxonomy and phylogeny of green coccoid freshwater microalgae (Chlorophyta: Selenastraceae, Scenedesmaceae; Oocystaceae, Chlorellaceae and others Trebouxiophyceae) verified by publications;
• Researcher must also have experience in obtaining (isolating) and maintaining axenic microalgal cultures. Furthermore, must have verified experience with studies on life cycles and physiology of green microalgae;
• The researcher must master techniques of molecular biology and bioinformatics for the amplification and sequences' treatment of the main genes used in phylogeny and taxonomy of green microalgae, such as ITS, SSUrDNA, tufA, and rbcL;
• It is important to have experience with optical and electron microscopy techniques and image analysis.

The post-doctoral researcher will be granted a fellowship by FAPESP (R$ 7,373.10 per month, 24 months), and with Research Contingency Funds - an amount of 15% of the annual value of the fellowship to unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activities of the subproject.
