Assistant Professor, Term Tenure Track

This is an Assistant Professor, Term Tenure Track, Research Scientist position in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, in the Division of Diagnostic Imaging. The goal of this position is to build a structured and sustainable program for developing and utilizing artificial intelligence in the clinical translational domain.  This position will work across disease-focused imaging, molecular, and patient outcome platforms to develop pipelines that streamline image post processing and analysis. These pipelines would be based on machine learning technology and would focus on improving patient outcomes, imaging diagnostic capabilities, quality and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Assist in the development of an independent and sustainable artificial intelligence program. 

2. Explore new ideas which may lead to grant applications and high-impact publications related to artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a formal program, including 40% salary support, within three years.

3. Build artificial intelligence based solutions to support image segmentation, image analysis, texture analysis, tumor metrics, volumetrics, and radiomics.

4. Develop novel machine learning pipelines to quantify disease phonotype based on curated clinical imaging scans, and apply statistical algorithms to evaluate its prognostic and predictive values.

5. Decipher Disease Mechanisms through Multi-omics Approach: engineer computational frameworks to study the associations between radiological patterns and features extracted from histopathological slides and molecular tests.

6. Submission of scientific results and manuscripts to high-impact journals.

7. Supervise trainees in their research.

8. Collaborate with Diagnostic Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging, multidisciplinary clinical faculty, research scientists, and IT to develop pipelines that streamline image post processing and analysis. The candidate is expected to share their knowledge, expertise and skills in such efforts, and mentor trainees.

ADMINISTRATIVE

1.  Participates in institutional committees and scholarship service activities.

2.  Participates in the training of graduate students, post-doctoral research fellows, and lecture series.

3. Participates in professional society activities, extramural reviews and lectures, and governmental agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in bioengineering or related fields.  Post-doctoral research experience is highly desirable.  Evidence of promise to develop independent research and creativity by award of nationally peer-reviewed extramural funding is required or equivalent accomplishments if coming from industrial research.
