Job Purpose

It is anticipated that this 2 year trainee position will enable an individual to work towards the next stages of their professional development as a Sport Scientist through practical on the job training, mentoring and an annual £1200 CPD budget.

The post holder will gain applied knowledge, skills and experience of working with a range of athletes within a multi-disciplinary team. Once the holder of the post has completed the initial training they will be expected to assist in the maintenance of the lab, delivery of designated physiological testing, monitoring sessions and sport science support to UOB Sport teams & athletes.

A formalised programme of training and development is provided to not only improve their ability as a practitioner but work towards completing the BASES SE pathway. This will include mentoring, in-house workshops as well as funding to attend BASES conference and SE workshops.

Person Specification

Knowledge
  • An awareness of the needs of performance athletes.
  • An understanding of physiology applied to the sport setting.
  • An understanding of coaching styles and practical delivery.


Skills
  • Good communication skills, confidence to present to larger groups as well as attention to detail
  • Team player able to work as a member of a busy multi-functional team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and show initiative. Use of Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Good organisational skills, the ability to plan effectively.
  • An empathy with working within a student environment, with the desire to develop student sport.


Qualifications
  • Qualified in GCSE Maths and English (grade C or equivalent)
  • Eligible for BASES SE pathway


Experience
  • Experience with high performance sport, either as an athlete, coach or practitioner.
  • Experience and understanding of the Higher Education environment and its demands.
  • Experience in a role requiring presentations to a group in any format.
