The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is the flagship unit for applied social science research at UQ and one of the largest social science research institutes in Australia. ISSR's mission is to advance solution-oriented social research, and Institute researchers address some of the most important issues and challenges facing Australia and the world today in areas such as family dynamics, education, social wellbeing, data science, and health. ISSR is self funded with a high performing culture with academic flexibility that brings together leading researchers, policy experts, and management professionals whose multidisciplinary approach benefits diverse end-users, from all levels of government to private industry, community organisations, and the not-for-profit sector.

The role

The successful appointees will contribute to writing and managing externally commissioned research projects, preparing project funding applications, outlines and plans, undertaking research analyses, designing social interventions, conducting evaluations, undertaking academic research and preparing academic papers, research reports, working papers and conference submissions. Candidates must be willing to work on a range of projects beyond a narrow research specialisation, in multidisciplinary teams and with non-university stakeholders from government, industry, the not-for-profit sector and end-user communities. preparing and presenting training courses.

Appointments will be made at either level A or level B, depending on experience and achievements.

The person

We are seeking candidates with expertise across a range of substantive disciplines and research experiences. We encourage a wide pool of applicants with high quality disciplinary expertise and experiences that can make contribution to current research in social disadvantage, well-being of Indigenous Australians, education, health, family dynamics, and employment. Candidates are expected to show innovation, publish in high quality outlets, lead HDR students and work collaboratively with industry partners.

Candidates also require good project management skills and advanced research methods skills in one or more of the following areas: qualitative social science; quantitative social science or related disciplines like applied statistics; experimental or non-experimental policy and program evaluation; or data science methods such as machine learning for structured or unstructured data. Candidates with strong research methods skills and research specialisations other than those listed above are also encouraged to apply.

Remuneration

These are full-time, three year fixed term appointments at Academic level A or B.

The remuneration package for Academic Level A will be in the range $84, 878 - $90, 982 p.a and for Academic Level B will be in the range $95,771 - $113, 728 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package for Academic Level A will be in the range $99, 307 - $106,448 and for Academic Level B will be in the range $112, 052 - $133,061 p.a.).
