The School for Policy Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to expand and complement our current excellent teaching, research and impact activities in the broad area of Physical Activity, Nutrition and Health. The appointee will join a dynamic, ambitious and collegial School that pushes forward intellectual debates and real-world solutions to a range of policy and social dilemmas within an interdisciplinary environment.

The post is located on Pathway One and will be appointed at either Profile Level b (Lecturer, grade J) or Profile Level c (Lecturer, grade K) or Profile level d (Senior Lecturer, grade L) of the University's Academic Pathways depending on relevant experience, skills and knowledge of the successful candidate.

The School has an exceptional reputation for teaching, research and public engagement. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) our work in exercise, nutrition and health was ranked best in the country. Our undergraduate (UG) programmes are top rated in national league tables. In the QS World Rankings we are consistently ranked in the top 30 worldwide and top ten in the UK. The appointee will contribute to UG and postgraduate teaching and will be encouraged to engage with innovation in teaching and curriculum development. Experience in either public health, clinical groups or global health in either children or adults is desirable. We embrace all research methodologies (qualitative methods, trials, natural experiments, epidemiology and evidence synthesis) and welcome expertise in any of these areas.

You should have expertise in one or more of the following fields: physical activity / nutrition in relation to mental health, psychological well-being and/or behaviour change. You should also have a record of publications judged to be 3* or 4* quality by REF (for appointment at Senior Lecturer 4* is essential) and eligible for inclusion in our submission to the Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism unit of assessment (UoA 24) for REF2021; ability to gain external research funding as PI or Co-I; and experience of delivering and running high quality lectures and seminars in a higher education context. A completed PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline by the post start date is essential. For Senior Lecturer level, ability to lead large-scale and/or strategic bids and ability to provide leadership to teaching and research teams is essential.

The post is open ended and available from 2 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is full time, however the School is open to requests for working part time/job share.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 13 May 2019. Please indicate on your application what level(s)/grade(s) you wish to be considered for. The final selection process is expected to be held on 13 June 2019.
