Job Details

Founded over a hundred years ago, the University of Bristol has revolutionised society with its cutting-edge research and education. An international powerhouse of learning, discovery and enterprise, the University's excellence is acknowledged locally, nationally and globally. As a Russell Group university ranked in the top 50 universities in the world (QS 2018), Bristol's future will be as remarkable as its past.

We are recruiting for an Assistant Director, Marketing & Communications to join our dynamic, ambitious, and fast-growing Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO). As a team we are all motivated by the impact of our work and our shared vision to ' unite our global community to inspire positive change and transform people's lives '

This is a new position and a rare opportunity to lead a newly formed discrete, specialist function in DARO. The post holder will be experienced in building, leading and inspiring teams, fostering collaboration, and devising leading edge marketing strategy to underpin the successful delivery of the University's stretching philanthropic goals and global engagement ambitions.

You will be the lead marketing and communications specialist in the team with the confidence, experience, practical 'know how' and gravitas to build credibility and trust quickly. You will be responsible for setting high standards, establishing the commissioning process and creating stand out content for telling our unique story across multiple channels, in support of major projects, appeals and campaigns, which bring the cause to life and gives voice to our beneficiaries.

Working closely with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations and as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), you will help shape the DARO strategy and reset how marketing and communications is organised and how team expectations are defined and met. You will also be our highly visible lead for internal communications, helping to build a greater understanding of philanthropy and engagement across the University and developing mutually productive partnerships with Faculties/Schools and the Marketing and Communications team in the Division of External Relations.

You will have an inclusive, motivational leadership style including strong negotiation, influencing and relationship building skills, with a high degree of self-awareness. You will bring demonstrable experience of successfully building and managing high performing marketing teams, proven strategic capability and track record of delivering innovative, high impact, multi-channel campaigns for larger, complex organisations. You will have excellent visual, literacy and editorial skills combined with judgement to assess quality and impact and a strong belief in the importance of universities and their role in society.

For more information please contact Steve O'Connor, Director of Development and Alumni Relations on +44(0)117 394 1047 or by emailing Stephen.OConnor@bristol.ac.uk .

Closing date for applications: midnight on 6 May 2019.

Interview date: 14 May 2019.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
