Job Details
A wide variety of respiratory virus infections have been linked to CNS diseases. Especially the neurotropic potential of enterovirus D68 (which emerged in 2014) and influenza A viruses (which cause yearly epidemics and occasionally pandemics) received more attention in recent years. However, the exact mechanism how these viruses enter and cause diseases of the CNS is only partly understood. It is currently unknown which viral factors and associated phenotypes are important for invasion and replication in the CNS, and whether this requires within-host adaptation. In addition, it is currently only partly understood how viruses can leave the respiratory tract, and enter the CNS.
The project will address these important aspects in the pathogenesis of CNS disease caused by respiratory viruses. The studies will include in vitro and in in vivo experiments, molecular virology and pathology, which will be performed in BSL2 and BSL3 facilities. You will be working within an enthusiastic research team with sufficient opportunities to further develop your scientific career.
Requirements
You have a PhD from an accredited academic program in (Molecular) Biology, Virology or Neuroscience Candidates and an excellent command of the English language, both oral and written. You are enthusiastic and highly motivated; demonstrable experiences with cell culture and various molecular, and/or virological techniques are preferred.
Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.
Benefits
The position is a one-year fixed term contract, which can be extended to three-years, starting as soon as possible. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.361,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
