Job Purpose

This post operates within the Research Design Service West Midlands (RDSWM). The role will be to develop and maintain key relationships with stakeholders, developing engagement and showcasing activities. The post holder will work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids, operating within area of specialism. They will analyse and interpret research findings and results and contribute to generating funding.

The role will involve providing advice on research methods to health care professionals and researchers and assisting in the development of research funding proposals to national peer-reviewed funding programmes in response to requests through the Research Design Service West Midlands (RDSWM). The post holder will also conduct their own research in line with the Institute Research Strategy and in conjunction with line manager.

Person Specification
  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Broad-based knowledge of the range of research designs relevant to applied health research
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders using multiple channels of communication
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of health care professionals and researchers
  • Ability to assimilate knowledge relevant to the range of National Institute for Health Research Funding programmes and other National peer-reviewed funding schemes and apply this as part of advising RDS service users
  • Evidence of publishing academic publications
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
