The Role

We seek a highly motivated PhD student/s to work within an Australian Research Council funded Industry Linkage Project focussed on improving agrichemical retention on plants. This project is in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology and a number of Industrial Partners. Specifically, within the AIBN, the aim of this project is to design, fabricate and validate microfluidic device platforms capable of generating, in a highly controlled manner, liquid droplets of variable volume, composition and velocity, and to then investigate their impact dynamics on a variety of surfaces, including leaves and mimics thereof.

The successful candidate will work extensively in AIBN laboratories, but will also undertake pilot work in collaborations with QUT and our industrial partners under the guidance of a multidisciplinary advisory team.

 

The Person

This scholarship is open to Australian citizens and international applicants. Candidates should have Honours degree (First Class or IIA) or Master Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Physics or similar, with a strong fluid mechanics / fluid physics background and experience in microfluidic device design and development. International candidates should be eligible for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) or external scholarship (for more information, please visit: http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/scholarships-and-fees).

Remuneration

The base stipend will be at the rate of AUD $27,082 per annum (2018 rate, indexed annually), tax-free for three years with the possibility of two 6-month extensions in approved circumstances.
