Research Associate - Antimicrobial Technology

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to carry out a multidisciplinary research project across three faculties and a company. The successful candidate will be an employee of the University of Bristol but will be seconded to Pertinax Pharma Ltd, a spin-out company of the University founded in 2015 and based in north Bristol.

 

The project will entail a series of toxicological, microbiological, chemical and physical assessments of a novel antimicrobial technology and its formulations. The technology is antiseptic based and was developed with the aim of addressing some of the challenges of antibiotic resistance, by reducing the use of antibiotics in particular medical and veterinary situations. The overarching aim of this 6 months project is to generate data and understanding to facilitate the commercialisation of what was originally a University technology, by gaining a better understanding of its toxicological profile and efficacy. Of particular interest is the application of the material in wound care, providing safe and effective antimicrobial wound dressings for conditions such as burns and diabetic foot.

Working with Drs Michele Barbour, Darryl Hill, Jim Spencer and Jeroen van Duijneveldt, there will be ample opportunity to develop new skills and contacts. The successful applicant will be able to compare and contrast the experiences of working in academic research groups and an early stage commercial endeavour and will gain invaluable experience of both environments.
