Job Details

The Department of Engineering Mathematics, part of the School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Mathematics (SCEEM) at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to support its growth in hands-on teaching of mathematical and data modelling.

A candidate is sought with a proven track record of facilitating individual and group learning at undergraduate and masters level. We have a unique brand to offer students, as one of the only Engineering Maths departments in the country, and we pride ourselves on offering students a tool kit with which to solve real-world problems.

Ability to source and scope out problems from industry or applied researchers is also a key requirement of the job. In time, the appointed candidate will be expected to move into a leadership role in this kind of education. Ability to facilitate learning in computer programming would also be desirable.

Interest in developing novel teaching methods will be particularly welcomed, as will a willingness to engage in research, outreach and/or industrial knowledge exchange in a way that complements the Department’s existing strengths.

This post is being offered on a full-time, open-ended contract. Where candidates come with industrial liaison and knowledge transfer experience we could offer an appointment on to pathway 3 which is our teaching focused career pathway.   The closing date for applications is Sunday 1st July 2018.

Candidates may be invited to give a presentation and attend an interview as part of the final selection process.  It is expected that this process will be held in the week starting 23rd and 24th July.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact: Prof Alan Champneys, Head Engineering Mathematics:     a.r.champneys@bristol.ac.uk   Or   Prof Ian Nabney, Head of School, SCEEM: sceem-hos@bristol.ac.uk

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
