Research Technician

To undertake, assist and support research activities within the established research project entitled: “ Toll and kinase-less Trk receptors in concert drive a novel mechanism of structural synaptic plasticity”, led by Dr Alicia Hidalgo (Principal Investigator, University of Birmingham) and funded by the BBSRC. • First degree or equivalent professional qualification in an appropriate science subject (e.g. Life Sciences/Biological Sciences/Genetics/Cell Biology/Neuroscience/Chemistry/Biochemistry/Mathematics or related disciplines).

• Understanding of fundamental biological concepts and numeracy essential to carry out the research

• Practical knowledge of technical and scientific methods

• Ability to carry out and learn further laboratory techniques to deliver competently on project aims

• Prior laboratory work experience

• Experience working with Drosophila would be desirable

• Good organisation skills

• Ability to organise and manage own work load and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work practices/ requirements

• Ability to work under minimal supervision but function as part of a team

• Ability to support, train or supervise others in laboratory methods (e.g. undergraduate students)

• Computer skills in commonly used software packages
