Two positions at the level of Senior Lecturer: Mathematics / Lecturer: Mathematics

(Ref. NW08/192/0618)

The Department of Mathematical Sciences is responsible for teaching and research in mathematics, applied mathematics and computer science at Stellenbosch University. The Mathematics Division is keen to strengthen its research in Algebra, Analysis, Category Theory, Combinatorics, Logic, Number Theory, and Topology.

Duties

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematics modules;
  • Research and publication in any relevant area of Mathematics;
  • Advising and supervising postgraduate students;
  • Administrative roles on a rotational basis.


Job Requirements

  • PhD in Mathematics;
  • A growing research profile in at least one of the Division's research focus areas.


Senior Lecturer:

  • Continuous and growing publication record in recognised international journals;
  • Proven competency in developing and offering undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematics modules;
  • An existing national and/or international research network;
  • Successful supervision of postgraduate students on at least MSc level;
  • Involvement in initiatives to advance Mathematics.


Lecturer:

  • Original publishable research, published in recognised international journals;
  • Teaching experience in Mathematics (lecturer or teaching assistant) at tertiary level.

 

Recommendation

  • Postdoctoral research experience;
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills;
  • Ability to teach in English and, as far as possible, in Afrikaans.
