The Group leader of Assay Development leads the MFT group and drives projects to develop and commercialize new assays and applications for the product line. In depth understanding of the electrokinetic, hydrodynamic, biochemical, and electrophoretic principles employed by the system is applied toward the development and optimization of new reagent kits, fluorescent labeling chemistries, and sample preparation protocols to expand the market for the platform. The position involves supervising and coordinating the work of team members to balance resources across competing priorities, reviewing experimental design, and assuring that valid conclusions are drawn from accurate interpretation of experimental results. The Manager works regularly with Quality Assurance, Chip Manufacturing, Reagent Manufacturing, and Marketing to ensure projects comply with the PerkinElmer new product introduction process. The position also ensures support of the global PerkinElmer automation and microfluidics business by working as necessary with customer support and field applications organizations to provide troubleshooting for systematic performance issues with the platform and to provide training and marketing material for new assay releases.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the commercialization of new assays for the LabChip product line, ensuring compliance with the PerkinElmer NPI process.
  • Supervise team members by setting milestones and timelines for projects, prioritizing tasks, contributing to experimental design, reviewing data analysis, and discussing conclusions.
  • Work with the marketing organization to understand customers' needs, prioritize projects, determine market impact of new applications/assays, and set realistic user requirements and timelines for product development.
  • Manage relationships with key customers to ensure that new and existing products and applications meet their needs and perform to expectations.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for systemic performance issues with microfluidic instruments, chips or reagents.
  • Provide training, technical expertise, and marketing collateral on the platform, its applications, and new assay products to support the global sales organization.
  • Designated second in charge of the Automation and Microfluidic application team in lieu of the portfolio director.
