ORGANIZATION: Merck Global Science Technology & Commercialization (GSTC)

The GSTC intern program supports internship with a 10-12 week duration which will include one or more projects. These opportunities can provide you with great development and a chance to see if Merck is the right company for your long-term goals. The projects that you work in can be in one of the following three areas:


Work in teams to bring research discoveries to full production scale by applying engineering, chemistry and pharmaceutics skills to bench-scale processes.

Conceive, develop and implement new processing and manufacturing technologies

Work with teams to develop processes for new products, using chemically- or biologically- derived products

Support process technology transfer to commercial operations groups


Design and build advanced manufacturing plants, laboratory and office facilities

Involvement with all phases of project management from the first engineering drawing to the last phase of project start up


Work with operations and quality groups to maintain products at a high level of performance

Transfer products within Merck’s internal and external manufacturing network

Execute strategic projects to enhance our World Class Supply posture – decrease inventory, shorten cycle times, lower costs

Specific internship openings in GSTC may be in the following areas:

Chemical Commercialization & Technical Operations (Rahway, NJ) focuses on the process, characterization, technology development, production support, and process improvement of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Pharmaceutical Commercialization Technology (West Point, PA and Rahway, NJ) performs process development, characterization and scale-up of the formation of oral solid, oral liquid and topical drug products.

Global Vaccines & Biologics Commercialization (West Point, PA and Kenilworth, NJ) is responsible for the development, characterization, and implementation of vaccine and therapeutic protein processes, as well as the process commercialization for sterile drug products.

Global Engineering Solutions (West Point, PA) - Delivers reliable and compliant assets and capacities to support Merck’s production and people through design and project management for capital projects.

Global Technical Operations – Bio/Sterile (West Point, PA) is responsible for the end-to-end support of Merck’s large molecule supply network inclusive of: biological and vaccine bulk drug substance, finished dosage forms, packaging, and distribution.

Global Technical Operations - Pharmaceuticals (West Point, PA and Kenilworth, NJ) is responsible for the end-to-end support of Merck’s small molecule supply network inclusive of: active pharmaceutical ingredients, finished dosage forms, packaging, and distribution.

- Currently in Sophomore or Junior level curriculum, working toward B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Biochemical Engineering or Biology or related majors


- Available for a minimum of 10 week internship beginning June 2017

- Superior technical competency as demonstrated by excellent academic record and work achievement

- Strong communication skills, personal character, and ethics

- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of U.S.
