Professor of Agronomy

School of Agriculture and Food Sciences

The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the University of Queensland (UQ) is one of the largest schools of this type in Australia. The School comprises research and teaching expertise in plant and soil science, animal science, agricultural economics and agribusiness, environmental science, natural resource management, rural development, food science, nutrition and food technology. With a diverse group of internationally regarded scientists, our experts deliver knowledge, skills and research that provide solutions to world issues in climate change, feeding the world, managing the environment, replacing fossil fuels with biofuels, maintaining biodiversity and supporting economic and community development. The School has a strong research profile and a close association with the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI); a joint initiative between UQ and the Queensland State Government.

The role

As part of a major initiative to develop the discipline of agronomy in the School, we are now seeking to appoint a plant science academic to extend our teaching and research capacity in agronomy, horticulture and crop physiology. Reporting to the Head of School, the Professor will develop and facilitate research programs that will strengthen the reputation of the School and UQ. Located at the Gatton campus, the appointee will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate course coordination, teaching and program development. They will undertake professional activities and consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders including universities, government bodies and industry. The Professor will have an excellent record of scholarly achievement in agronomy and experience leading teaching and research programs in the field. They should also have an understanding of subtropical and tropical environments and the associated challenges for agronomy.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in agronomy, or a relevant discipline, and have substantial experience in agronomy. Applicants should possess teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and experience of effective supervision of higher degree research students. Applicants should also possess an outstanding research track record with a national and international reputation for scholarship in agronomy as evidenced by grants, publications and other research performance indicators.

Remuneration

This is a full-time continuing appointment at Academic Level E. A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
