The National School for Primary Care Research has recently outlined its requirement for Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) strategy to be in place in each of its Academic Primary Care Centres in the Country. Therefore, an opportunity has become available to appoint a new dedicated School of Primary Care (SPCR) PPI Officer in the Primary Care and Population Sciences (PCPS) Academic Unit, Faculty of Medicine, based at Aldermoor Health Centre. The postholder will be responsible for introducing and implementing PPI Strategy across the Academic Unit and for ensuring that PPI is being embedded into the research within the Group, through the lifecycle of all research, from application to dissemination stages.
You will be educated to degree level and must be able to demonstrate significant involvement/engagement knowledge, understanding and experience, including working with children, young people and adults. This will include excellent communication and facilitation skills, the setting up and maintenance of PPI groups, engaging individuals in Primary Care research and developing their skills to enable them to contribute to discussions effectively. You will liaise and network with the general public, other PPI representatives and academics and build ongoing relationships. Previous knowledge of the primary care structure within the NHS/University would be beneficial but not essential. You must be self-motivated, well-organised and able to work to tight deadlines. This post is offered for 1.5 days per week (0.3fte) for a period of 12 months in the first instance, with a good possibility of further extension, and is available immediately.
For an informal discussion about the post please contact Dr Caroline Eyles on 023 8024 1089 or C.G.Eyles@soton.ac.uk.
You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above.
