Job Purpose

The School of Pharmacy is a rapidly developing entity offering an innovative, clinically orientated MPharm, which is in its final stages of completion together with a developing range of postgraduate taught programmes and vital research activities. It is important that the post holder has a highly developed knowledge and practice of the principles, theory and methods of an aspect of pharmaceutics that is complementary to the activities of the College and wider university. Their research should form an important contribution to any future research exercise framework assessment and they will provide leadership in the speciality of pharmaceutics.

Person Specification

Education and training

  • • a good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant field
  • • a professional qualification may be advantageous


Specific knowledge

  • • an understanding of the research landscape, especially as it pertains to pharmaceutics and drug delivery
  • • identification of new areas of research and teaching;


Skills and abilities

  • • skills in managing projects and working collaboratively with fellow scholars and clinician researchers
  • • ability in strategic planning, showing effective implementation and evaluation
  • • ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • • ability to implement the mission of the School, College and University


Experience

  • • an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching demonstrated through an outstanding publication record and suitable teaching performance indicators
  • • an established record of attracting external funding and engagement in knowledge-transfer activities
  • • a record of organising effective, new and original research programmes
  • • extensive experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision to doctoral level
  • • extensive experience of fostering academic collaboration across disciplinary boundaries
  • • experience of working within and leading internal and external networks
  • • experience of mentoring research activity of junior staff
  • • experience of resource planning and management
  • • relevant professional experience
  • • a record as a “good citizen” who recognises the need to foster collegiate endeavour and a sense of academic fellowship
