The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit was established at The University of Queensland in 1984, recognising the importance of support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and engagement with the Indigenous community. The activities of the ATSIS Unit are guided by the objectives of The University of Queensland Strategic Plan. The ATSIS Unit strongly supports the celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognises the enormous contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives bring to UQ's Learning, Discovery and Engagement activities.
The role
The role sees the appointee engaging in teaching, service/engagement, research and other academic activities associated with the ATSIS Unit. Success in the role requires an extensive knowledge and/or high-level understanding of the discipline of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, strong knowledge of community protocols, and well established connections to Communities.
This is an identified position and the occupant must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent under sections 25 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
The person
Applicants should possess postgraduate qualifications with relevant teaching and mentoring experience in a tertiary environment. A Level C academic is expected to have completed a PhD. A Level B academic should have completed a PhD, or be close to completion of a PhD program. The successful applicant will have knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Studies as an academic discipline and, knowledge of Cultural Competency and its application in a tertiary teaching and learning environment.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic Level B or C. The remuneration package for:
Academic Level B will be in the range $89,458 to $106,232 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $ 104,666.99 - $124,291.71p.a.); Academic Level C will be in the range $109,586 to $126,360 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $ 128,216.61to $ 147,841.33p.a.)
