Merck Research Laboratories Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) Department has a Senior Scientist level position available in West Point, PA for a highly talented and motivated individual. This opportunity will involve using innovative technologies to investigate the distribution of therapeutic agents in preclinical species through the application of mass spectrometry imaging techniques (MALDI-MS, Surface Analysis MS, and others). In this role, the candidate will be expected to design and conduct experiments, interpret results, and share data with cross-functional teams.

Further roles include facilitating development of internal state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based imaging capabilities. Routine work will include preparing tissue sections, developing imaging mass spectrometry methods, conducting imaging experiments, analyzing and summarizing data, and communicating with project teams. The candidate should have the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with internal and external groups effectively. Candidate will be expected to travel between Merck & Co. sites as needed 25% time.


Educational Requirements:

- Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Required Experience:

- Strong background in mass spectrometry-based tissue imaging, including utilization of MALDI-mass spectrometry instrumentation.

- Track record of innovative problem solving and method development.

Preferred Experience:

- Strong verbal and excellent written communication skills.

- Excellent analytical and technical skills.

- Tissue sample preparation for MS imaging.

- Hands-on experience with histological staining and microscopy.

- Knowledge other ex vivo or in vivo imaging modalities.

- Diverse background in mass spectrometry including quantitative bioanalysis and metabolite identification.
